청자 다기와 녹차
Korean celadon — cheongja — is defined by its bisaek glaze, a pale blue-green that potters in the Goryeo dynasty spent generations refining. This set sits on a low table, teapot and cups arranged as if mid-use, the tea inside settling into a shallow yellow-green that sits oddly against the cool glaze. Fine crackle lines run through the surface, visible only where light catches them. Nobody is in the room; the steam has all but gone.

Why this subject
고려청자는 박물관 유리장 안의 유물로만 보기 쉽지만, 원래는 손에 쥐고 차를 마시던 그릇이었다. 그 쓰임의 감각을 되살리고 싶어 완성된 기물이 아니라 사용 중인 다기를 소재로 골랐다. 녹차의 연둣빛과 청자의 비색이 만나는 지점이 이 그림의 중심이다.
On the style
수채 질감은 청자 유약 특유의 반투명한 깊이를 표현하는 데 적합하다. 색이 겹겹이 쌓이면서 표면 아래로 비쳐 보이는 느낌이 유약층의 두께와 닮았기 때문이다. 확산된 빛은 다관의 둥근 어깨에서 하이라이트를 날카롭지 않게 미끄러뜨리고, 잔 그림자를 상 위에 부드럽게 눕힌다. 채도를 낮춘 따뜻한 색조가 차가운 비색을 눌러 주어, 도자기가 유물이 아니라 방금 손을 뗀 그릇처럼 보이게 한다.
